See Photos From The Whelan School's Culture Project

First graders at the Whelan School put on a wonderful show last week to celebrate culture, identity, and community. Families and staff came together to see how proud the students were of the cultural heritage projects they had worked on. Each one showed how unique the families at the Whelan School are.

Students from many different countries, including Colombia, El Salvador, Bosnia, Morocco, Vietnam, Italy, Brazil, Haiti, Puerto Rico, and others, discussed their home countries in a way that made sense. Each presentation showed a different side of the traditions and histories that are important to our students. These included music, food, traditional clothes and flags, and more.

Our first graders talked about what makes their cultures different. The audience learned new words, heard interesting facts, and discussed important family traditions that have lasted. This show was a school project and a celebration of who we are and where we fit in the world.

This event reminds us how important it is to learn about and respect other people's cultures. This helps the school community grow and become better acquainted with each other. Thanks to the students, their families, and their teachers for their hard work and help in making this event a success!
